The Greek Catholic Church of St Michael the Archangel is one of the most representative Eastern Rite churches on the Slovak side of the Carpathians. It was built in 1742 without a single metal nail, modelled on the Subcarpathian-Russian Lemkos.
It is the only Lemko-style church to feature an octagonal dome over the nave and a bell tower above the vestibule, known as the ‘babinec’. Inside is a beautiful Byzantine iconostasis depicting numerous saints, painted by the monks Philon and Cyprian. Both the iconostasis and the altar are listed as national cultural monuments.
It lies close to the main road from Svidník, making it the most easily accessible of the small churches in the area.
